Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is ideally situated just a forty five minute drive from Manchester. The Trust provides services to the 440,000 residents of Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre and North Lancashire, as well as specialist tertiary care for Cardiac and Haematology patients. We employ more than 6,500 staff, have approximately 900 beds and have a planned turnover in excess of £410m for 2017/2018.

Further afield, Blackpool also benefits from less than three-hour connections via rail to Edinburgh in the north and London in the south.

Applications are invited for the part time post of a Consultant in Emergency Medicine working across the geographical areas of Blackpool Fylde & Wyre. This newly established post is for a 50% (0.5 WTE) part time consultant though interst in another specialty to make up to full time (1 WTE) is welcomed.

Appointment to this position would help to fulfill a planned increase in numbers to 10 Consultant WTEs. The successful candidate will join 8.5 Consultant Colleagues. The consultant team is supported by 12 ST3+ doctors, 6 GP trainees, 2 ACCS trainees, 5 FY2 trainees, 5 ST1 doctors and 6 FY1 trainees. There are also 3 ANPs and 6 ENPs as well as a multi-professional team based in the purpose built Emergency Department.

The Emergency Department at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is a high performing and forward-looking Department. The Department deals with approximately 86,000 new patients and 5,000 follow up patients per annum and performs well with respect to the 4 hour standard. The adult : paediatric patient split was approximately 71,000 : 15,000. We are currently pursuing a quality agenda based around improving outcomes and reducing mortality in line with the College standards. In addition we are working closely with our host PCT to direct attendees with primary care problems to the adjoining Urgent Care Centre. The Emergency Department uses an electronic patient records system supplied by ALERT ®.

Blackpool Victoria Hospital is an 849 bedded Hospital serving the three surrounding boroughs of Blackpool Fylde & Wyre. It has a population of 330,000 with some seasonal variation as Blackpool and the Fylde Coast attracts up to 16 million visitors a year. There are desirable residential areas throughout the Fylde Coast area and rural Wyre, with excellent schooling facilities within easy reach of the hospital.
