Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is ideally situated just a forty five minute drive from Manchester. The Trust provides services to the 440,000 residents of Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre and North Lancashire, as well as specialist tertiary care for Cardiac and Haematology patients. We employ more than 6,500 staff, have approximately 900 beds and have a planned turnover in excess of £410m for 2017/2018.

As one of the United Kingdom’s largest coastal resort, Blackpool has plenty to offer its residents – it’s not just a good place to work; it’s a great place to live. In addition to its bustling centre and historic seafront, the town is world famous for its many attractions, including the famous Blackpool Tower. Blackpool also offers a number of scenic cycling routes round our local parks and across the surrounding countryside, as well as boasting panoramic views of the coast on its picturesque Promenade. Further afield, Blackpool also benefits from less than three-hour connections via rail to Edinburgh in the north and London in the south.

Our strategic vision for 2020 is:

As a high performing Trust, operating as part of an integrated care system, we will provide high quality, safe and effective care. This will be achieved in a financially sustainable way, through our skilled and motivated workforce”.

This new position has been created to play a major role in the delivery of our expanded diabetes and endocrinology service as well as supporting our trailblazing community-based Extensive Care Service, as well as inpatient specialist input.
The Fylde Coast is one of the national lead sites for transforming care for patients through our status as a Vanguard which has seen significant investment in order to test the ‘multispecialty community provider organisational model’ identified in NHS England’s Five Year Forward View which has seen us implement a number of new models of care that have a focus on the management of long term conditions including diabetes.
This exciting and innovative post will help support the on-going development of the integrated diabetes pathway across all care settings on the Fylde Coast where diabetes has been identified as a priority long term condition. This has led to a commitment to redesign current diabetes and endocrine services, which has already seen the establishment of a community diabetes clinic as well as supporting the expansion of a tier 3 weight management service. We are currently establishing a revolutionary multidisciplinary foot service as a result of a successful bid for national transformation funding.
As well as leading on the delivery of the diabetes and endocrine service, the post-holder will split some of their time managing older patients with multiple long term conditions (including diabetes) through the Extensive Care Service which provides high demand patients with a wrap-around MDT care service. One of the Trusts key clinical strategies is a commitment for clinical teams to lead on the delivery of enhanced care in new innovative ways, in line with clinical evidence, ensuring patients are seen by the right person, in the right place at the right time.
The successful candidate will join a multi-professional team both in the community and acute setting at Blackpool Teaching Hospital. They will join an established team of four Diabetes and Endocrine Consultants (including the Extensivist Consultant).
Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire, and offers a full range of district hospital services and community health services to a population of 1.6 million in Lancashire and South Cumbria. FC population including diabetes prevalence.

The dual seaside towns are nestled along a picturesque stretch of coastline lined with well-tended lawns, a boating lake and pretty parks.
Only a short journey away are the unique and wildlife rich Morecambe Bay in the north to the flat and fertile coastal plains around Ormskirk and the Ribble Estuary; to the undulating fells and moorland of the Forest of Bowland and Pennines in the east.
Liverpool, Manchester and the stunning Lake District are all an hour away.
